VIDEO TRANSCRIPTION
Hey guys. Welcome to another video blog for A Spacesuit for the Soul. I’m your host, Roger Janik and today I want to try something a little different. I’m trying different things. I’m experimenting. I’m trying to find things that I enjoy, but also things that connect with the audience, and connect with you guys.
So when I was a kid, I used to write a lot of poems. I say po-EM, my wife says PO-em, so don’t judge me if you don’t like how I say poem. But when I was a kid, I used to write a lot of poetry and I’ve gotten away from that. Part of this journey and this new path I’m on is kind of connecting with my true self and who I truly am inside, working with the spirit and the divine more, and kind of getting in touch with my soul, which is something I hope for you, the listener or the viewer, to be doing as well. I miss writing poetry. I really miss that. It kind of hit me the other day, I should maybe try that for these blogs, and maybe I’ll start by writing a poem and then talking about it afterwards, and what I feel like it means, and what was on my mind while I was writing it.
So, yeah. I had a lot of fun writing it this morning. It was very cathartic. I felt like I was doing soul work. It just felt good, you know? It was different from the normal, daily grind of the different jobs I have when I’m earning a paycheck. This is more of that creative, spiritual side. With no further ado, let me read you this poem I wrote today. I call it Conflict and Resolution (aka ‘The Remedy’).
Life in conflict, conflict from the core
Suppressing true self
Worldly demands scream for more
A Remedy awaits those ready to receive
But it cannot be purchased
And is no trick up a sleeve
Hear water trickling and a sweet wind blow
As brown leaves float to the ground
Your spirit will grow
Hold this gift close and firmly to your heart
Follow your path
Now whole, not apart
So, I really enjoyed writing that. I want to kind of explain what it means to me. It doesn’t have to mean the same thing for you, and that’s what’s great about poetry is that it can mean different things for every person, and they can interpret and take them in differently, which is fantastic. I think that’s how it should be with pretty much any art form.
But for me, when I say, “Life is conflict, conflict from the core,” it’s because most of us are living in this dualistic world where we’re meeting the demands of society and the cultures that we’re living in, and we’re kind of going through the motions, day to day. A lot of times that’s just not aligned with our true selves and what’s truly inside of us. That creates that conflict, the friction, the friction between the internal true self, and then that external person that you may be acting like, and that mask you may be wearing day to day. Sometimes you may feel like you have to wear that mask because of the situation you’re in, or the job you’re in, the circumstance you’re in, but because you’re doing that, it creates that friction, and that tension, and that conflict between what’s on the deep inside and what’s true to your nature and true to your spirit.
When I say that the remedy is for those that are ready to receive, that’s true, too. You have to be willing to kind of step outside that box and start tearing down the walls and the masks and all the things that are hiding your true self from the world. I’m guilty of that. I still struggle with that day to day. I have jobs and situations I’m in every single day in communications, in meetings, but I try to make an effort to be as authentic as I can, and as honest, and just transparent because I feel like you can still go through your day to day, and you can still do business, but do it in a very authentic, very authentic, open way. That’s not easy. It’s not easy because everyone wants to put on that mask and hide behind it and act like they’re the perfect person, or perfect employee, or perfect role model, or whatever. You can strive for perfection. There’s nothing wrong with striving for perfection, but be yourself. Be authentic. E true to who you are. Try to live in life and in business, honestly and openly with those around you.
One of the ways to get in touch with your true inner self and who you are behind all of that stuff is, as I said in the poem, is listening to nature. Sometimes it’s as simple as that. Just staying calm and at ease, and resting your mind, not thinking about… shutting out the rest of the world and the things that you were doing throughout the day and just being in that calm center and just listening, right? Listening to the birds chirping, and the wind blowing, and the leaves falling, and just really appreciating, really appreciating this beautiful, amazing gift that’s all around us that we’ve been given.
Life in itself it just amazing that we’re here and that we’re born. That in itself is a miracle. That you have a consciousness and you’re aware, and you’re awake and that you’ve been given this gift of life, that in itself is so powerful, but to get in touch with that, that true inner spirit of who you are on the inside… Just feel and embrace nature and try to connect because we’re all one. We’re all part of that. We’re all connected. All living things are connected. The more you can do that, and calm the mind, quiet the mind, and feel that connection to the earth, and to the plants, and to the trees, and to the animals, and have that knowing that we are all connected, all living things are connected and all have come from The Divine Source, I think the more in touch you’ll get with your inner self.
And then start moving along that path and start living along that path, which will lead to happiness, less stress, less conflict, less anxiety, less depression, less sadness because most of this sadness, depression, anxiety, anger, fear, turmoil, all those emotions that a lot of us feel on many different levels, and they can be a roller coaster for everybody. It could be low, it could be medium, it could be high. It depends on what day of the week it is. But most of the time, it’s because we’re living in conflict. We’re living in conflict with who we really are on the inside and who we’re really meant to be and how we should be acting. We’re not aligned. We’re not in sync with who we really are, and that conflict causes suffering is what it causes.
There you go. That’s the poem for the day. That’s the lesson. Like I said, I’m still a student. I’m not perfect. As I’m going through exercises like this, I’m also teaching myself. I’m also trying to become more attuned and more aligned with who I am and who my true self is, too. Anyway, hope you got something out to this today. Hope it connected with you. If you liked the poem, please share it.
All right, have a great day.
